Kaiju Conversation - Five Years of Talking BIG
Five years later…
Kaiju Conversation is proud to launch this site on the five-year anniversary of the show going live! It has been a long-time project that continues to prove that hard work pays off. Five years in, 88 episodes, 20 bonus episodes, 12 livestreams, and over a dozen YouTube videos, Kaiju Conversation continues to grow! Last year was the biggest year for the show beating all previous years and beating most of them combined! Feedspot recognized Kaiju Conversation as the top podcast in both the “kaiju” and “tokusatsu” categories which was amazing itself! The show continues to grow in terms of its own personality and its viewer-base. We hope with the launch of this website, people will be able to find our work more easily and it will make for a good experience.
This year seems very novel to be the five year anniversary of the show, not only that but it’s the 70th anniversary of Godzilla, to commemorate that we started the year covering a new Godzilla title “Destroy All Monsters” (1968), followed by our first Shōwa kaiju film directed by Ishiro Honda that wasn’t a Godzilla film “King Kong Escapes” (1967) [Making it so we’ve covered all but one of the 1967 kaiju films produced in Japan from that year] in anticipation (or dread) for the new film we’re getting this year! Continuing the Kongversation, we covered the Academy Award winning film from 1976 “King Kong” all in preparation for “Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire”. More importantly, this also marks the year that Godzilla finally became an Oscar Award Winning film! A huge congratulations to the team of “Godzilla: Minus One” for this historic win! And to think that all happened in this year just three months in. Season Five of Kaiju Conversation has a lot still to do, while we won’t be producing as much content as we did last year, in order for the hosts to work on other projects they have going on, it will be huge for fans of kaiju! Get ready for more interviews, analyses, and exclusive content covering the wide-world of tokusatsu!
Here are some words from the hosts of the show…
Starting with “Episode 1: MonsterVerse”, I didn’t think my guest appearance on that would lead to “co-co-hosting” or even to eventually hosting the show, but here we are! These past five years have been rocky on occasion but I wouldn’t take it back for the world, Kaiju Conversation has been a project that I have poured my heart and soul into now for FIVE years… that’s insaine! I never thought that I would still be here five years later… let alone thinking that much time has passed. Since that first episode, we’ve branched out and done so much and I’ve done so much, between repping Kaiju Conversation on panels, livestreams, pther shows, it has been a wild ride!
And yet now things are still changing for the better, recently with this year beginning, I have worked on two official kaiju projects that being Titanic Creations Yongary action figure and SRS Cinema’s “Yuzo: The Biggest Battle in Tokyo” Blu-ray. More is coming down the pipeline, and more Kaiju Conversation is alread in th eprogress of being made, I am so happy with how things have gone, but I couldn’t have done it without the help of many people… The co-hosts (of both the past and present), for helping me build off ideas and create what the show it now, the guests and special guests that have agreed to come on and talk about their love and admiration for the genre and cinema, Rex for editing the episodes and or past editors for helping give me the time to do what we do. And most importantly, the supporters and listeners for helping push us and make us feel good about what we do. I love what I do and seeing/hearing the reception that you guys have for the show and what we do makes it all the more exciting! I cannot wait to see what yera five brings us, and I cannot wait to the next five years… and beyond!
~ Elijah “ET” Thomas
Five years of Kaiju Conversation? It’s weird to think, especially given that I really wasn’t there until around a good year or so down the line, so it’s a bit strange to be celebrating that. In saying that however, editing and co-hosting Kaiju Conversation as tiring as it can be is at the sametime very rewarding. There is so much personal growth for Elijah and myself that can be seen through episodes of the show. We as people have changed, as well as our tastes, and the way we view media. Whilst there is still more than plenty of room for growth, I feel that it’s been most noticeable in the past year that the two of us have been slowly getting better and better at having engaging discussions.
On top of our own personal growth, it has been awesome to see a lot of the time put into Kaiju Conversation rewarded with it’s own growth. If I could individually thank every single listener here I would. Elijah and I both hope that you will continue supporting us and our future endeavours.
~ Rex
Kaiju Conversation isn’t going anywhere, there are still tons of kaiju and tokusatsu films (and television) to cover, stay tuned for Kawasaki Month and all of the content that is in the pipeline! We’re not going anywhere anytime soon!
